Press release: Groundbreaking for the new company location of thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik
thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik, a branch of thyssenkrupp Schulte GmbH, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new company headquarters in Bochum on February 25, 2022. The new building in the Gerthe-Süd business park is a local community project supported by Bochum Wirtschaftsentwicklung and financed by the investor Hans H. Sudhoff. A total of around 3.5 million euros will be invested in the new building and thus in the settlement of the international trade experts in the field of magnets. Investor Sudhoff will be the builder and owner of the building.
Representatives of the project members involved took part in the symbolic act – in strict compliance with the current pandemic requirements. Among the participants were project manager Matthias Schlottke and Bettina Schotten, head of thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik, Peter Zarth, CFO and managing director of thyssenkrupp Schulte, accompanied by Mayor Thomas Eiskirch and Rouven Beeck, managing director of Bochum Wirtschaftsentwicklung, and investor Hans H. Sudhoff. The celebratory highlight of the groundbreaking was the sinking of a time capsule, which was filled with personal wishes and instant photos, the front page of the daily newspaper and magnets.
The new location offers us excellent opportunities to find specialized partners for individual applications in the field of magnet technology and to expand our service portfolio for our customers. We are very grateful to the city of Bochum for their dedicated and comprehensive support, which made our settlement possible in the first place.
Matthias Schlottke
Project manager from thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik
We are pleased that we have created a forward-looking perspective for our internationally successful business area. It once again underlines the importance of thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik within the thyssenkrupp Schulte Group.
Peter Zarth
CFO of thyssenkrupp Schulte
For Bochum, the settlement of thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik is another success in strengthening the reputation of our city as a modern technology location. I am particularly pleased that we were also able to make an offer to an international company to settle in Bochum.
Thomas Eiskirch
Mayor of Bochum
“Due to the scarcity of commercial space in the Ruhr area, the investment is designed for the long term right from the start. With the traditional company thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik, we were also able to find a tenant with a lot of potential for the future,” says investor Hans H. Sudhoff.
Efficient new building with a sustainable concept The new location with a total area of over 2,000 m², of which around 1,300 m² is storage space and almost 800 m² of office space, is being built in accordance with the energy-saving “Efficiency House 40” standard. A state-of-the-art measurement and testing laboratory is attached to ensure the quality of the offered magnets and magnet systems. With the help of a wide variety of environmentally friendly measures, great importance is attached to the topic of sustainability. The roof of the administration building is designed as a climate-positive green roof over an area of around 250 m². The installation of a photovoltaic system is also planned for almost complete self-supply with electricity. The sustainable aspect in the parking lot is supplemented by eight charging stations for e-cars. Last but not least, a green area behind the storage building serves as a place for employees to organize their lunch breaks and as an outdoor work area. The modern workplace concept continues inside the administration building, with open space and co-working solutions. The planned move from thyssenkrupp Magnettechnik’s current headquarters in Essen will take place gradually between June and October 2022.
